Meet Dr. Jukaku
PSYCHIATRY, THERAPY
Sarah Jukaku, MD, MSc
Welcome! As a board-certified psychiatrist, I offer comprehensive, compassionate mental healthcare for a diverse community of patients. After graduating with a BA in Sociology and Near Eastern Studies from the University of Michigan, I completed a masters degree at Oxford University in the UK. I earned my medical degree from Columbia University and stayed in New York for internship training at Weill Cornell NY Presbyterian Hospital. I completed my psychiatric residency training at Michigan Medicine and later served as co-chief of psychiatry at University Health Services before founding Mind Work Psychiatry.
Our work together begins with an in-depth evaluation and thorough assessment of you, as the whole person that you are, aiming to understand your history and how you interact with the world around you in the context of the challenges you are facing today.
Emerging from the evaluation, we will develop a shared understanding of any relevant diagnoses and work in partnership to create a highly personalized, evidence-based treatment plan that combines diverse modalities to build and support your mental health.
As a client-centered provider, I want you to feel confident in your care. That means making sure your questions are answered completely and validating any concerns that you have about our plan, especially when things aren’t going the way you’d like.
I want you to know that I will walk by your side until you feel like the best version of yourself. In my experience, confidence in the partnership with your provider can nurture hope and accelerate healing.
The Mind Work Process
Step One: Reach out!
You can click on the book a consultation button and fill out a pre-screening form or just pick up the phone and call—Dr. Jukaku will answer when she can or call back within a day. Please read the FAQ section beforehand, noting that Dr. Jukaku is out of network for all insurance companies.
Step Two: Complimentary consultation
Once you’ve scheduled a screening, please find a quiet, private area for your call. The screening call will last about 15 min and is free of charge. Dr. Jukaku will obtain an abbreviated history and we will determine together if it’s a good fit.
Step Three: Creating a portal and Scheduling an Intake
If it is a good fit, we will schedule an intake and send you a link to create a HIPAA-compliant portal account with us where we will handle messaging and billing. Ideally, you’ll have a list of any previous treatments to bring to your first appointment but don’t sweat it if you can’t remember everything.
Step Four: Starting the Journey to Healing
Your intake appointment will be remote or in-person and will last an hour and a half. We’ll discuss a lot of your history, including your childhood, your medical history, your family history, your illness course, and most importantly, what’s going on right now. Dr. Jukaku will provide you with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment and treatment plan. We will decide together what we want to focus on first, how frequently we need to meet, and what the journey to feeling like a better you will look like
